Lifestyle, Personal and Life Coaching:

Being a certified Nutrition/Wellness Specialist, Personal/Lifestyle Coach, and Nutritionist, Ann-Marie is proud to be able to offer coaching and nutritional counselling services.   She has received certification through Can-Fit-Pro, the Lifestyle Coaching Institute, and Quantum Academies respectively.  She initially became a coach, while operating her fitness club, to help women through weight loss plateaus and mental blocks.  Her skills were further enhanced through coach training as part of the biofeedback specialist certification process.

What IS coaching all about?
  • Do you feel overwhelmed and stressed out?
  • Are you stuck in a life rut?
  • Are you unsatisfied with the body you’re in?
  • Are you familiar with healthy eating habits but don’t know how to make them yours and make them stick?
  • Are you neglecting yourself, your family, and/or your work?
  • Do you just react to life versus creating the life you want?
  • Are you seeking a personalized program which deals with your mindset, your unique situation and barriers to success, and helps you make changes that last?

What is Personal and/or Lifestyle Coaching?

Personal and/or life coaching can encompass a large range of issues for the client, whereas Lifestyle Coaching  generally focuses on sustainable healthy lifestyle changes --- behavioral changes that enhance both the well-being and happiness of the client. A lifestyle coaching program specializes in fitness, lifestyle changes, stress management and realistic weight loss, while a personal coaching program may cover personal, career, family, health, or emotional issues, just to name a few.  Often times they overlap because all areas of our lives are usually entwined with each other.  When a client engages in a coaching program, he or she decides what the focus of the coaching session will be, not the coach.

The beauty of using a coaching model is that the CLIENT is in control of the subject matter of each session and the coach is merely listening, observing, and asking well crafted questions to enlighten and empower the client to come up with his or her own answers and plan of action.

How Does Coaching Work?
During each coaching session, the client chooses the focus of conversation while the coach listens and contributes observations and questions.

The Language of Lifestyle Coaching
Coaching utilizes a specific crafting of language. It is usually in question form, which facilitates a deepened awareness, understanding and shift in the way a client thinks about a particular obstacle or goal--similar to the way a particular sport coach influenced you. This language crafting empowers clients to take responsibility for their health. The whole premise of coaching is that clients are capable of change and accountable to themselves, with the coach acting as a guide. The client is responsible for his or her own actions and coaching supports the process of self responsibility.

Asking Powerful Questions and The Great QuestionGame
The most effective and qualified lifestyle coaches are proficient in the skill of asking powerful questions.  "Well," you might be thinking, "I ask questions all the time. How difficult can it be?" Asking questions from a coaching perspective is different than what you usually ask questions for: information. Masterful coaches ask nonjudgmental, non-leading and agenda-free questions.   For group work and introducing coaching to new clients, Ann uses the Great Question™ game.

Enlightening Feedback
A trained personal or lifestyle coach doesn't just ask questions, but also provides feedback that helps the client examine what he or she probably knows at some level but hasn't considered. This skill is closely tied to listening, since a coach must listen on all levels in order to pick up what's not being said. Enlightening feedback promotes further learning when it's free of the coach's bias. A trained coach will:
  • reflect what's heard to allow the client to sort through the nuances of his or her own thinking;
  • remain neutral to what the client takes from the feedback;
  • allow for silence so the client can process what he or she has heard or said.
Lifestyle coaching helps individuals create a life path on their own terms.

Convenience

Clients like the convenience of lifestyle coaching because it can be done in person or via telephone. A typical coaching session is 30 minutes, once per week or two hours per month.
